Reclined Butterfly placeholder graphic

Benefits

Encourages fascial release, joint mobility, and a calm parasympathetic response. Particularly helpful for receiving support.

Props

Blocks, blanket, or bolster optional.

Hold Time

3 to 5 minutes

Cautions

Avoid forcing depth. Back out if you feel sharp, pinching, or electric sensations, especially around knees and low back.

Entering Reclined Butterfly

Lie on your back and bring the soles of the feet together. Let the knees open out to the sides. Place support under the thighs if needed and rest the arms comfortably. Take a steady inhale to create length, then use the exhale to settle into the final shape.

Exiting Reclined Butterfly

Use the hands to guide the knees together. Place the feet on the floor and rest in neutral. Pause in a neutral position for a moment before continuing.
