Sphinx Pose placeholder graphic

Benefits

Encourages fascial release, joint mobility, and a calm parasympathetic response. Particularly helpful for cultivating openness.

Props

Blanket optional.

Hold Time

3 to 5 minutes

Cautions

Avoid forcing depth. Back out if you feel sharp, pinching, or electric sensations, especially around knees and low back.

Entering Sphinx Pose

Lie on your belly with the legs extended behind you. Place the forearms on the floor with elbows under or slightly in front of the shoulders. Press into the forearms and lift the chest. Take a steady inhale to create length, then use the exhale to settle into the final shape.

Exiting Sphinx Pose

Lower the chest down to the floor. Rest the forehead or one cheek on the mat. Pause in a neutral position for a moment before continuing.
